Blanchard is located approximately 8 miles northwest of
Shreveport in the pine-tree
woodlands of North Caddo Parish. A sign at the corporate limits of Blanchard declares boldly
to motorists: "This is Poke Salad Country". The town, named after a
former Louisiana governor, celebrates a festival honoring a wild herb
that's poisonous until it's cooked.
Founding History
Blanchard was founded in 1896 and incorporated in 1961. The Cross Lake Bridge, located on the Shreveport-Blanchard Highway north of town, allows the residents to live in Blanchard and work in Shreveport and Bossier City.
Moving to Blanchard, LA
Blanchard, almost surrounded by Shreveport, is growing
rapidly. Land continues to be annexed for the development of new
subdivisions. Both Blanchard and Shreveport are experiencing growth
through annexation, and their corporate limits are inching closer and closer
to one another.
